Ceremonies take place in height-ened states of consciousness, with the intention of increasing participants' self-knowledge.
These states of consciousness are achieved through a combina-tion of cognitive processes de-signed for this purpose, and the ritualistic use of Ayahuasca, a plant recognised by Amazonian tradition as the "instructive plant".
